Christianity In The Middle Ages by Sally L

Contribution to the church and society in the middle ages

St Francis of Assisi contribution to the church was to change the way the church thought about the people and their spiritual qualities. Some of these people were married and had children as they were the majority of people in society. Many of the wealthy people had become unhappy with the church and chose a simpler life, because of the power and wealth of the church. The church had become corrupt, it had lost its way.  Inspired by the teachings of St Francis, people had their faith restored because the message was simple and sincere spoken by St Francis. Monks were locked in monasteries, they devoted their life to prayer, whereas the Franciscans went out and preached to the people. This inspired the people to join the order of the Franciscans and lay people to also help others less-fortunate. Without St Francis of Assisi, they may not have been inspired to do this. He also contributed his life to rebuilding small chapels, so people have a place to worship and to hear the voice of God.
